Women are vast and varied, each different, but then what is it that defines us all as women? Other than our common anatomical features, is there not something other that defines us all as being a ‘Woman’, a convergence than spans across women? This project is seeking the inner countenance of women, an expression of womanliness in the world. Do certain places resonate of woman, do our lives contain a common commentary, and do our bodies unsuspectingly speak of womanliness beyond our anatomy? Can one espy the idiosyncratic hint of womanliness? Is it an inflection in our movement, or our breath?

During the residency in Romania, Mistry is collaborating with Romanian actress Andreea Bibiri.

Priya Mistry (UK) is a performance and visual artist based in the U.K. She creates performances, socially engaged projects. The project is questioning if the accumulation of repetition creates sense. The aim is to write almost unimportant (daily) gestures with the movement of head and eyes to arrive where body transform itself to an unknown place or image. What does repetition offer? Body is a host, permeable and transistor of her environment, mentality, and century. Habitus is the set of socially learnt dispositions, skills and ways of acting, that are often taken for granted, and which are acquired through the activities and experiences of everyday life, according to Pierre Bourdieu.

For the development of her project in Romania, Özlem Alkış is collaborating with musician Vlaicu Golcea.

Özlem Alkış is a dancer and choreographer based in Istanbul, Turkey.
