The research project developed under this title by the Portuguese artist, curator and theoretician Rog\u00e9rio Nuno Costa will include an intensive workshop aimed for art practitioners and theorists who have already developed some work in the fields of performing or visual arts, willing to be confronted with a set of rules that will question their notions of artistic freedom, the methodology behind their creative processes and, above all, the means by which they operate with the formats surrounding the concept of \u201cmemory\u201d: archives, documents, leftovers, traces and tracks. The workshop is 50% practical\/50% theoretical, and is developed around collective brainstormings, group research, short presentations (lectures\/talks), thorough documentation (video, photo and text) and, if possible, a broader audience final presentation.<\/p>\n

The workshop also includes a talk focused on the idea of \u201cself-obstruction\u201d (by the reposition of the artist inside an intriguing critical frame: \u201cthe prison without walls\u201d) as a way to achieve a more conscious and transversal notion of \u201cartistic freedom\u201d. This moment can work perfectly as an introduction to projects created by the workshop participants themselves. Some excerpts of the movie \u201cThe 5 Obstructions\u201d [by Danish filmmakers Lars von Trier & J\u00f8rgen Leth] will be discussed as a starting point and\/or as an illustration of the questions and problematics produced. This presentation may assume many different kinds of media: photography, installation, video, sound, text-based performance, dance, drama, conference\/lecture-based performance, etc. The workshop is developed in connection with Universidade\/ University, the ongoing research project including workshops, group sessions and artist talks, undertaken by Rog\u00e9rio Nuno Costa.<\/p>\n

The participation to the workshop is free of charge. Interested art practitioners are invited to register at contact@e-motional.eu<\/a> by submitting their biography, brief details on their portfolio and a short description of a project there are currently developing, which they would like to discuss\/present during the workshop. The workshop is open to maximum 10 participants. Registration is open through July 16.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The event is organised by Gabriela Tudor Foundation in the frame of ZonaD dancelab for interactive research\/ MAP, in connection with ZonaD \u2013 mobile platform for contemporary dance project and E-Motional. Partners: ODD, Modulab, Replika Centre for Educational Theatre, Zeppelin. Rog\u00e9rio Nuno Costa is a Portuguese performance artist based in Lisbon and Porto. His work deals with the major concept of documentation when applied to ephemeral performative actions. His performances, videos, conferences, show cases, installations and texts explore the fields of theatre, movement, visual arts, literature, philosophy and anthropology, interconnecting public and private contexts, autobiographical discourses and informational\/communicational strategies: social networking, advertising, conceptual propaganda, guerrilla art, etc. He\u2019s also a researcher, an art\u2019s teacher, a curator, a documentary maker, a writer and a \u201cconceptual\u201d chef. Major in Communication and Journalism, has studied Contemporary Art History and Contemporary Culture and New Technologies. Frequently collaborates with several performance and visual artists in Portugal and abroad. Usually writes for cultural publications and is invited to participate in conferences and talks, mainly about documentation practices. Has been teaching, lecturing and directing workshops and master classes in academic institutions such as Escola Superior de Artes e Design (Caldas da Rainha, Portugal), Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema (Lisbon, Portugal), Faculdade de Belas Artes (Lisbon, Portugal), Hogeschool voor de Kunsten (Arnhem, The Netherlands) and Faculdade de Letras (Coimbra, Portugal). Currently, he is teaching the Major in Theatre at Universidade do Minho, in Guimar\u00e3es (Portugal), and is one of the advisors for the ongoing Major and Doctoral projects at Transart Institute (Berlin & New York). He\u2019s the author of the infamous art manifesto \u201cDogma 2005\u201d and the catalogues \u201cDocumentation Project\u201d (about his performance trilogy \u201cVou A Tua Casa\u201d), \u201cBig Curator Is Watching You!\u201d (about his curatorial program \u201cThe Spectator\u2019 s Opportunity\u201d). Apart from his own performance work, he is usually invited to write and direct theatre and dance performances for other artists and companies, also working as a dramaturge and consultant for many cultural projects. Recently, he has been working in the field of Culinary Arts under the alias Chef R\u00f8, developing a project called \u201cVou \u00c0 Tua Mesa\u201d (I go to your table), mixing Gastronomy with Art, Science, Technology and Philosophy, within the frame of foodjaying and underground dining events as well as conceptual radio and TV shows. Food writer in the Portuguese magazines Viral Agenda and Intermagazine, the creativity platform Porto Fashion Makers and the fashion blog TRASH\u00c9DIA. He is the Portuguese ambassador of the international food event Restaurant Day. Currently, he is working as documentation consultant within the dance companies Ballet Contempor\u00e2neo do Norte and Cia. Kale\/Armaz\u00e9m 22. Prepares for 2015 the publishing of a non-art magazine called \u201cRealpolitik\u201d, the launching of the Year One of a pedagogical project called \u201cUniversity\/Yliopisto\u201c, and the rave party\/concert\/performance \u201c\u20acTRASH\u201d.
