Mihaela Dancs & Madalina Dan in residence in Riga

Romanian choreographers Mihaela Dancs and Madalina Dan will work in Riga between September 1-28, 2011 for the first E-motional ArtistNe(s)t residence in Latvia.

During the residence the artists will work on the new dance piece – (anti) aging, which will be premiered in Bucharest in October 2011, and which Latvian audience will have the opportunity to see in Riga in November 2011. They also will meet local contemporary artists, will hold workshops and welcome Latvian artists to see some their open rehearsals. At the end of the residency Mihaela and Madalina will share the result of the work in Riga with audience.

The residency is organised by Association of Professional Contemporary Dance Choreographers in Latvia and Gabriela Tudor Foundation in Bucharest, and will be hosted at BETANOVUSS –  the Floating Arts Centre Noass.

Former dentist Mihaela Dancs is a performer and choreographer based in Bucharest. She has danced among others for Allyson Green, Catalina Gubandru, Andreea Capitanescu, Florin Flueras, Maria Baroncea & Eduard Gabia, Bernard Baumgarten, Vava Stefanescu, Madalina Dan, Robin Dingemans. Her works include collaborations with Rui Catalao (Coada Soricelului and Follow That Summer) and Carmen Cotofana (First Steps), solos (Reprogramare, Lulu’s Room, The Greatest Loss of All – adaptation of Deborah Hay’s Art and Life, Solo Performing Commissioning Project 2010), and have been presented in theaters, apartments, attics, churches, factories, art galleries and dance studios in Bucharest, Cluj, New York, San Diego, London, etc. In 2010 she received the DanceWEB Scholarship in Vienna/Impulstanz.

Madalina Dan studied at the Choreography Highschool from Bucharest and at the University of Drama and Film in Bucharest – choreography department. She was a member of Oleg Danovski Dance Company. She has a MFA in playwriting at the University of Drama and Film in Bucharest. In 2008 she participated in Danceweb Scholarship Program-Vienna. She is a member of Embassy of… an international collective of dance and performance. She teaches contemporary dance for amateurs at the National Dance Centre in Bucharest . She is one of the initiators of the educational program In2grad.
