A new artist-in-residence – MARIIA KONDRATIEVA (Ukraine) is hosted in Bucharest between August-September 2024. Mariia is a choreographer, performer, teacher and organizer of cultural events in contemporary dance. She is co-founder and educational program curator of DniproBodyProject – a public organization of independent artists of Dnipro region (since 2016). Also, she was the founder and director of Breaze Dance Centre (2009-2019).
Since 2003, as a choreographer and dance teacher, she has been working with children and adults, with professionals and amateurs. Her most important dance pieces: 2010 – “Somnambulisation”; 2013 – “Alice”; 2015 – “Red threads”; 2016 – “Comfort zone”; 2017 – “Girl and the ball”; 2018 – “Only mine”; 2018 – “#ifthereisawill” (in collaboration with other independent choreographers); 2020 – “Meeting. Acquainting”; 2022 – “Survivor Syndrome”.
Mariia’s ongoing project during the Bucharest residency at AREAL in August-September 2024 – “What Is Fragility?” – is an experimental work in which dancer explores the concept of fragility through the language of movement. By using body language and body practices, the dancer seeks to embody the concept of fragility and tries to find a way to live in this fragile world.
The Gabriela Tudor Residency 2024 is part of “What’s next? Safe cultural multi-spaces for the multidisciplinary reflection of (post)war and (post)crisis European identity”, project co-organised by Gabriela Tudor Foundation (Romania), MitOst e.V. & zusa (Germany), Musiktheatertage Wien (Austria), Wrocławski Instytut Kultury (Poland), and @proto.produkciia (Ukraine), co-funded by the Creative Europe program of the European Union, cultural program co-funded by the Administration of the National Cultural Fund.
